Stunt Driving On Highway 17


On January 5, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. on Highway 17 west of Spanish an officer from the East Algoma OPP detachment in Blind River was on general patrol when they observed a westbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Using police radar it was confirmed that the vehicle was travelling in excesses of 50 km/h above the posted speed limit of 90 km/h for that section of roadway. The vehicle was stopped without incident. The driver was charged, the vehicle and driver’s license were seized for 7 days.

Abdullah Sagrq ALOTIBI, 32 years of age from Sault Ste Marie now faces a charge of stunt driving contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Motorists are advised to always drive within the speed limit and according to weather conditions when travelling on the Highways or within your community.
