Team Burns and Team Horgan, from the Idwylwylde G&CC in Sudbury won in the Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling and will represent Northern Ontario at the 2015 M & M Canadian Junior Curling Championships being held in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on January 24 – February 1.
In the Jr Women’s Final Team M. Smith representing the Sudbury Curling Club with a 7-0 record had the bye into the final went up against Team Burns who were the winners of the semi-final game against Team Barclay.

The game would get a slow start off with both teams being cautious and attempting to score more than one point in the end. Team Smith would have the last rock in the first end and would blank the first two ends and end up settling for a single in the 3rd.

Team Smith would steal a single in the 4th end to give them a 2-0 lead. Teams Burns and Smith would trade singles and at the end of 7 ends Team Smith had a 1 rock lead. Team Burns would steal another single in the 8th end to tie the game and again Team Burns would steal 3 in the 9th end to give Burns a 3 rock lead. In the 10th end Team Smith ran out of rocks and conceded the game.

The Jr Men’s Final Team Warkentin representing Port Arthur Curling Club also had a perfect record of 7-0 and went up against Team Horgan who won in the Semi-Final game between Team Acorn.

Team Warkentin tried to blank the first end but the skip’s stone stayed in the house to score a single point and lost the hammer going into the 2nd end. Team Horgan, with the last rock in the 3rd end tried taking out Warkentin’s stone but lost the shooter and was only able to score a double.
In the 4th end Team Warkentin was forced to score a single as Team Horgan was laying 2 in the house and at the end of this end the score was tied at 2 a piece. Both teams traded doubles in the 5th and 6th ends and Team Horgan would score a single in the 7th giving them a 1 shot lead.

Team Warkentin would blank the 8th end but give up a steal by Horgan in the 9th putting Team Warkentin down by 2. In a nail biter of a 10th end Team Warkentin would score 2 to tie the game sending the match into extra ends with Team Horgan having the hammer in the 11th and Horgan would score 3 in the end to give the team the win by a score of 9-3.
