One Miller to another!
The last name Miller was mentioned on the Soo Thunderbirds side of things today. First, it was announced that T-Birds captain Anthony Miller was named one of the Eastlink TV three stars of the week after finishing off the weekend with three goals and an assist through two games. Then, a former Soo Thunderbird defenseman got rewarded for his stellar play at a different level. Sault native Colin Miller, who is currently in his second American Hockey League season with the Manchester Monarchs has been selected to play in the 2015 AHL all star classic in Utica, New York, for the Eastern Conference All Stars, beginning with the skills competition on January 25th at 8pm, followed by the game on January 26th at 7pm.
Miller spent one season with the Soo Thunderbirds during 2009-2010, scoring 7 goals and 30 points through 46 games along with 38 penalty minutes. He also played four games with the T-Birds at the 2010 Dudley Hewitt Cup before signing as a free agent with the Soo Greyhounds prior to the 2010-2011 season. The Los Angeles Kings 2012 fifth round pick went on to play three OHL seasons with the Hounds, scoring 31 goals and 105 points through 174 games along with 201 penalty minutes. During his overage season in 2012-2013, Colin captained the Hounds and was named to the OHL Third All Star Team, voted as the Western Conference’s most underrated player on the coaches poll, finished tied for most goals by all league defensemen with 20 joining teammate Ryan Sproul and was awarded the OHL Commitment Award “Mickey Renaud Captain’s Trophy”.
The second year defenseman for the Monarchs currently has 7 goals and 22 points in 29 games this season. The Soo Thunderbirds organization congratulates Colin on this great accomplishment in his professional career.
Next action for the T-Birds is this Saturday, January 10th at the John Rhodes vs the Sudbury Nickel Barons at 7:30.
