After the semi-final action in Boys Basketball we’re down to the City Championships to be held on Saturday.
First, in Juniors, 2nd place St. Mary’s took down 3rd place Korah and 1st Place White Pines beat 4th place Superior Heights. Jrs.
St. Mary’s Knights Jrs protected the key area and not giving Korah the opportunity to get good scoring chances during the whole game forcing Korah to try a good number of shots from the outside. Halfway through the first quarter Korah still didn’t have any points while St. Marys had 10 and at the end of the quarter St. Marys had 13 while Korah was still not on the scoreboard.
It would take a little over a minute into the second quarter before Korah would hit the net and get on the scoreboard. At half time the score was 20 for St. Marys and 11 for Korah. At the half the leading scorers for St. Marys was Paul Zappacosta with 8 while Cole Wright and Cole Evans each had 6. For Korah Liam Brescacin counted for 9 while Tyren Dowding had 2.
For the last half of the game Korah made a a late push in the last quarter but still failed to pull within reach of pulling out a win. The final score was St. Marys 49 and Korah had 30. In the second half top scorers Paul Zappacosta would add another 9 for a total of 17 while Cole Evans
would add another 6 giving him a total of 12 for St. Marys. Korah’s Liam Brescacin added 13 for a total of 22 and Tyren Dowding would add 4 for a total of 6.
St. Mary’s will go up against 1st place White Pines Wolverines who handily beat Superior Heights SteelHawks. White Pines 57, Superior Heights 32.
The Seniors game had 3rd place St. Basil’s Saints visiting 2nd place Superior Heights SteelHawks.
At the end of the second quarter the SteelHawks had a slim lead over the Saints by a score of 21 to 18. Superior Heights top scorers for the first half were Chandler Simpson with 12 and Craig Daniel with 5. For St. Basil’s Matt Gregorchuck counted for 5 while Noah Creedon had 4.
The second half had Superior Heights turn up the heat out shooting St. Basil’s by 10 points with the final score of 49 for Superior Heights SteelHawks and St. Basil’s doubled their first half points with a total of 36. SteelHawks top scorers Chandler Simpson would add 5 for a total of 17, Lars Moffatt would have 10 while Craig Daniel would add 4 from his first half tally giving him 9. For the Saints Bryan Smith would count for 9, Matt Gregorchuck had 5 and Noah Creedon had 4.
Superior Heights will now go up against 1st place Korah Colts who took down St. Marys by a score of 68 to 32. Sam Ivey counted for 15 of the 68 points for Korah.
