The St. Basil Saints fell to the St. Mary’s Knights in the third game of the best out of five series for the City Championship by a score of 4 to 0.
The Saints skated hard but were overwhelmed by the powerful Knights for the whole game and the Knights defence kept the Saints from getting any real good scoring chances.
St. Mary’s got on the scoreboard about half way through the first period on a goal by Mitchel Robinson to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The Saints pressed on trying to get even but were stopped by Knights goal tender Bradley Caruso.
There was no scoring in the second period but with the frustration of trying to score a number of penalties were called as the game started to get a little rougher as both the Saints and Knights each received 3 penalties for a total of 6 minutes.
Mitchel Robinson would get his second goal of the game early in the third period and Mike Fabbro would score 16 seconds later to put the Knights up by a score of 3 to 0.
After the two goals in the third period their were a lot of hitting by both teams and the penalty box on both sides seen a lot of action with St. Basil having seven penalties while St. Mary’s had six.
With the win St. Mary’s won the Royal Canadian Legion City Championship Trophy and will now play in NOSSA AA on Monday and Tuesday, 2 & 3 March.
Mitchel Robinson was presented the Art Jarrett Memorial Trophy for the MVP Playoffs.
