19 members of the Sault YMCA girls gymnastic team travelled south to Bracebridge this past weekend to compete in the Muskoka Classic Gymnastic Competition hosted by Muskoka Limberettes. The female gymnasts range from age 7 to 13. Sault YMCA gymnasts were the most northern ON club competing against gymnasts from Muskoka, Parry Sound, Barrie, Richmond Hill, Dowling, Hamilton & Port Elgin.
Highest event score goes to Katie Bedley with 9.50 Vault.
Highest overall score was 37.075 Megan McMillan shone with 3 Gold, 1 Silver & Gold AA.

This was our first competition of the 2014-2015 seasons since the changes in Gymnastic Ontario program; which now closely reflects the Junior Olympic program from USA gymnastics. “We’ve had to restructure the skills and routines which are now standard with compulsory skills. In some cases this made the scoring process more understandable as we are on a level playing field. We focus on personal bests and sportsmanship.”

Head coach Danielle Lukenda & Jody Kilby were pleased overall with all athlete’s performances. “Our training facility at the Sault YMCA is smaller. Our instructor to athlete ratio is smaller. Our girls have less training hours compared to the athletes whom they compete against, yet they compete comparably. We are grateful for our program and the support from the Sault YMCA.” Lukenda stated.

The competitive team returns to training to compete in the upcoming competitions in Dowling & Sudbury respectively.
