SteelHawks and Knights Advance to Semi Finals

The Boys Basketball Quarter finals saw two match ups, for the Juniors it was St. Basil’s Saints going up against the Superior Heights SteelHawks and the Seniors had White Pines Wolverines hitting the court to face the St. Marys Knights.

In the Junior game Saint Basil’s took an early lead and at the end of the first quarter led the SteelHawks 8 to 5 with Jackson Hart from the SteelHawks sinking all 5 points.

Despite only having 7 players on the bench St. Basil’s kept the pressure up during the second quarter and at the half led 15 to 11 over Superior Heights.
Superior Heights turned up the heat for the second half outshooting the Saints to take the lead by 1 point with the score for Superior Heights 20, St. Basil’s 19 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter the SteelHawks added another 9 points while holding the Saints to only 2 points and at the end of the game the score was Superior Heights 29 and St. Basil’s 21.
Ben Wyer from Superior Heights counted for 12 points while Cody Tangl had 7 and Jake Trudel with 6 points for St. Basil’s.
The Superior Heights SteelHawks will now go up against 1st place White Pines Wolverines on Thursday with game time at 6:00 pm.

In Senior action the Knights and Wolverines traded hoops for the first half of the game with the score tied at 17 points each.  Darien Farkas led White Pines with 6 points while Matt Gregoire had 5.  For St. Marys D. Holden had 8 points while J. Hacket had 4.

Despite having only a total of 8 players White Pines kept pace with St. Marys and at the end of the third quarter was only down by 4 points with St. Marys leading 30 to 26.
A few missed opportunities in the fourth quarter by the Wolverines led to their demise as the Knights capitalized on their chances to take the win by a score of 41 to 32.
Knights D. Holden added 8 more points in the second half giving him a total of 16 while J. Hacket added 7 for a total of 11.  Darien Farkas had a total of 9 while Austin McGonegecal and Matt Gregoire rallied for a 8 points a piece for the Wolverines.
St. Marys Knights will hit the court against 1st place Korah Colts on Thursday at 7:30 pm
