Too Cold For The Polar Bear Swim!

This has only happened a few times before , but the Polar Bear Swim has been cancelled for tomorrow due to the extreme cold. Forecast highs for Sunday call for -20c with a windchill of -40c with a NW wind.

The annual winter carnival normally concludes with about 200 people taking the plunge in the icy St. Mary’s River.

Needless to say Mr. Bon Soo and the Bon Soo staff are extremely bummed about the situation, “but at these temperatures there is severe risk involved” said Kerrie De Poli Bon Soo manager.

The bumslides however will continue to operate for Family Day from noon to pm at the Mill Market Site and the Heritage Discovery Centre is welcoming people on Family Day with a 2 for 1 admission with a Bon Soo Button.

  1. Good decision, that could be a real shock to the system and not to mention the instant frostbite. I am sure there would have been some who would have done it anyways.
