Aircraft Missing Search Continues

On the 18 March 2015 at approximately 4:00am, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) will be dropping flares from their Aircraft as they continue to search for a missing Aircraft from Monday in the Parry Sound / Sudbury area.

OPP and JRCC are requesting that people do not call the OPP or JRCC with regards to the flares falling to the ground.

On March 17, 2015 shortly before 4 p.m., officers from the West Parry Sound Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of an aircraft having engine problems 20 kilometers south of Sudbury and 18 kilometres west of Key River. A Piper airplane with 3 occupants on board reportedly left Sudbury and had to make an emergency landing. Radio contact was lost.

Joint Rescue Coordinator Centre (JRCC) sent an aircraft and helicopter from Trenton to locate and assist. Officers from West Parry Sound OPP Detachment are currently attempting to locate the aircraft.

Transport Canada Safety Board has been notified and will be assisting in the investigation.
