Such are the events happening at the Aurora Squadron Competitions 2015, a the Sault Armouries which began on Friday evening.
Busses of cadets and officers from NLCC Timmins,NLCC Sudbury,NLCC NorthBay,NLCC Newman (Sault) arrived to begin a weekend of healthy competition.The Sault Armouries are the weekend sleeping quarters to 140 Officers and Cadets. Parents from out of town are billeted. The Aurora Squadron Competitions,wrapping up Sunday afternoon, will determine which squad heads to The Provincial Championships this summer in Woodstock,Ontario.
Lisa Nixon and John Vaillancourt made the trip from Timmins,arriving on Friday evening to support Lisa’s son Brady,a Navy League cadet,age 10 yrs. “Brady thoroughly enjoys being part of navy league cadets. He’s worked hard at developing skills, especially semaphore.” adding “Semaphore is a highlight. It’s essentially talking with flag signals.” John shared that semaphore harkens one back to the early days of warships. Flag signals require serious memory skills.” Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo Foxtrot.
‘Flag semaphore is the telegraphy system conveying information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags.Information is encoded by the position of the flags; it is read when the flag is in a fixed position.’

An announcement was made last evening to the cadets that our next corps trip will be to attend the 100th Anniversary Ceremonies of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in April 2017. There will be an important parent/ guardian and cadet meeting to discuss the details. Meeting will be held on Tuesday March 24th, 7:00 pm in the Theatre at the Armoury.
Any cadets interested in participating in this exciting opportunity are urged to attend the meeting with their parent / guardian. This meeting is also open to anyone who will be joining sea cadets in the next 18 months.
