St Pius X crowned Roundball Champions during a recent basketball tournament hosted by St Marys College. Getting to the final match for St Pius was not an easy task as they needed double overtime to knock out St Pauls.
The championship game faced Pius against top rated St Marys French Immersion. Less then two minutes in the game which saw the lead change a number of times and the game tied Christina a grade eight student from St Pius drove hard to the basket and was fouled in the process setting up the game winning point. Pius wins it in dramatic fashion 20-19. After the game Christina gave credit to head coach Dave Zagordo who repeatedly told us to settle down and stick to our game plan.
Christina added this was a solid team effort and it’s nice to see our small school of just 120 students not only compete but to actually win this tournament against schools that are triple our size in students
