Greyhounds Take Game One

With a near perfect home ice advantage the Greyhounds dominated the first game of the West Division semi final playoffs with the Saginaw Spirit coming to town.

The first ten minutes of the game only developed a few scoring chances for both teams as each team was trying to find any weak spots to capitalize on.

Justin Bailey would pick up a loose puck an turn on the jets to put the Soo on the scoreboard on a slight breakaway just past half way into the first period.

Michael Bunting would add to the Greyhounds tally while on the power play to make the score at the end of the period 2 – 0 in favor of the Soo.

Brandon Halverson would slip a few times in the first minute of the second period but managed to come up with a huge save on Kodola.

Zach Senyshyn would put the Greyhounds up by 3 with the Spirit’s net being knocked out of position just after the puck going in.

Darnell Nurse would get the gate for Goaltender Interference and then 30 seconds later Connor Boland would be sent to the box for Slashing giving the Spirit a 5 on 3 advantage for 1 minute and 30 seconds. The Soo would hold off Saginaw for the duration of both penalties to keep the score at 3 to 0.

The Spirit would get on the scoreboard while on the power play on a goal by Connor Brown. While short handed Jared McCann would give the Greyhounds a three goal lead and at the end of two the Greyhounds lead by a score of 4 to 1 over the Spirit.

Things settled down quite a bit for the third period with only two penalties being called, one for each team, but Bryan Moore would give the Greyhounds a little more breathing room at 2:09 with Nick Ritchie getting the assist.

The next game of the Semi Final matchup goes Saturday with a puck drop of 7:07.
