After trailing 2-0 through one and 2-1 through two, the T-Birds came storming out of the gates with four unanswered goals in the third to go onto a 5-2 victory over Elliot Lake Thursday night in game 1 of the West Division finals. This was the beginning of a number one versus two seed division rival with these clubs finishing just four points apart at the end of this regular season.
Boris Katchouk had a three point night for the Soo with a goal and two helpers while Matt Pinder notched a pair of goals. Anthony Miller scored once on the powerplay along with setting up another while Brett Jeffries and Eric Hillock each chipped in with a pair of assists. Owen Headrick scored once while Jaren Bellini got on the scoreboard with an assist.
Elliot Lake’s goals went to Aaron Carmichael on the powerplay and Kyle Salmon. Spencer MacLean, Liam Blais, Connor Scott and Adam Baxter all picked up single assists on the evening.
Brian Kment made 22 stops for the victory.
Game 2 action goes Saturday, March 28th in Elliot Lake at 7:30 from Centennial Arena.
