Freezing rain showers have put a nice thick coat of ice of roads, and although the main roads have been sanded, the side streets are like ice rinks.

Even walking on sidewalks could be dangerous today as freezing rain is expected for most of the day

A low pressure system currently over extreme Northern Minnesota is bringing some snow, ice pellets and freezing rain to the regions. Snow accumulations are generally light with only a couple of centimetres expected. A few hours of freezing rain is also expected, especially for parts of Northeastern Ontario. It should be somewhat more patchy for Northwestern Ontario. The freezing rain should end overnight or Saturday morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are warning motorists of dangerous driving conditions north of Sault Ste. Marie.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots are becoming icy, slippery and hazardous due to freezing rain.
OPP are currently investigating four separate motor vehicle incidents where vehicles have left the roadway within the past hour.
Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
