Greyhounds Win The Battle

Rod Aubertin:

In the first game of the Western Conference Semi Finals the visiting Guelph Storm got behind the Soo Greyhounds on the scoreboard and couldn’t recover to take the win.

The first period had no scoring but the Greyhounds power play didn’t seem to be as quite effective as there were not that many opportunities to put the puck behind Guelph’s net minder Justin Nichols.

Scoring for the Greyhounds exploded in the second period with the first goal going to Zach Senyshyn on a long stretch pass to give the Soo a 1-0 lead. With a lot of traffic in front of the net Bryan Moore would add to the lead a little over 2 minutes later.

Guelph would get their lone goal of the period by Givani Smith, but Sergey Tolchinsky would put the puck behind Nichols with just 0.6 seconds left in the second period to give the Greyhounds a 3 to 1 lead at the end of the period

There were a total of 7 goals in the third period with the first goal going to Justin Bailey, the second by Michael Bunting and the third by Nick Ritchie to give the Greyhounds a 6 to 1 commanding lead.

Guelph would match the Greyhounds tally for the period with two goals by CJ Garcia and a single by Jason Dickinson.

Nick Ritchie would get his second goal of the night with an empty net goal just under a minute left to go in the game.

Game Two of the series is Thursday, 9 April with a puck drop of 7:07
