Mourned by his children, Sylvia Nott (Mark), Helga Grodzinski (John) and André Rausch, and their mother, Anneliese. Beloved Opa to Stephanie, Kevin, Sylvia, Karl, Natasha, Avery and Hannah. Magical Ur-Opa to Kevin and Ryleigh. Pre-deceased by infant son Armin and wife Cynthia.
He immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1951. In Sault Ste. Marie he worked as a lumberjack, steelworker and insurance salesman. Moving to Toronto in 1967, he worked as a federal public servant specializing in helping immigrants with their pensions. In retirement he was active with Deutsches Theater Toronto, Mannerchor Harfentone, Donauschwaben Club and Hubertus Jagd Club.
His passion for hunting took him all over the world. He spent the last year of his life in Kingston nearer family. His impish sense of humour and fierce intellect remained despite increasing frailty; his greatest joy was the company and accomplishments of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Heartfelt thanks to the angels of Fairfield Manor East and the palliative care team of St. Mary’s On the Lake Hospital.
As per Opa’s wishes, his body has been donated to Queen’s Medical Research. Family celebrations of his life will be held at a later date.
Donations in his name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
