Michigan Upper Peninsula (UP) writer Ellen Airgood, from Grand Marais, Mich., shares excerpts from her 2011 debut novel during a public reading held April 7 at Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Airgood was on campus to formally accept the second Writing the UP Award from LSSU’s School of English.
She also provided one-on-one mentoring to creative writing students earlier in the day. In South of Superior, her debut novel, Airgood shows what many UP communities know – that there is a deep reward in caring for others, that one who is poor in pocket can be rich in many other ways, and that happiness often comes from the smallest gestures. Airgood’s next book, The Education of Ivy Blake, is due for release June 9 from Paulson Books.
