UPDATED: Fatal Accident North of the Sault

Fatal Accident Hwy. 556

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON) – On May 21, 2015 at 9:00  a.m., officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 556 near Old Mill Road.

Officers attended the scene and confirmed there was one fatality.  The identity of the deceased is not being released pending the notification of next of kin. No other persons were involved or injured.

The collision is being investigated by officers from the Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment with the assistance of a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) and Reconstructionist (RECON).  Further details will be released as information becomes available.

The highway remains closed in both directions while the OPP continue their investigation.

The woman driver has been confirmed as deceased.

  1. I think it is very inappropriate and cruel that the media would post pictures of this accident so quickly – family members and friends would have realized who was driving the vehicle – no one should learn of a tragedy in this way

This is very tragic for the family, and even more so that there are pictures of the accident posted for everyone, just tell the public there was an accident on so and so road, why take pictures of it, this would only traumatize the family more….My God media, would you want these pictures of your loved ones if they were in a fatal accident?
