Team Black Rolls Over Red


FullSizeRenderAfter a 6-3 Team Red win over Team Black Saturday, the Soo Thunderbirds concluded their 2015 Spring Camp Sunday morning with the final Red and Black scrimmage at the John Rhodes. T-Birds midgets forward Jason Bednarski stood out today for Team Black with two goals and a helper which led them to a 7-3 victory over the Red.

“It was a pretty good camp, a lot of on ice stuff, it’s pretty tough but help me back into shape really good and I was glad to be back on the ice.” Bednarski said following this morning’s scrimmage. “The Soo Thunderbirds midgets have a great coaching staff and really showed me what it takes to be at the next level for good and stay as a regular in the lineup.” When asked about today’s game, Bednarski added, “It was pretty good, I put a lot of work in there today, just trying to get pucks on net and going hard when I needed to.”

Team Black led 3-1 after the first period (twenty minute straight) getting goals from Darian Pilon, Levi Rowan and Mark Tassone. Kitchener Rangers prospect Matt MacKay had the lone tally in the first frame for Team Red.

The next two twenty minute periods switched to stop time.

Ryan Mulligan had the lone goal for Team Red in the second which cut the lead to 3-2 after two.

Batchawana Attack right winger Jason Uhl put his Team Black up 4-2 before Matt Capisciolto cut the lead to 4-3. Team Black got three more goals from Joel Grandbois, Jason Bednarski and Darian Pilon.

Assists for Team Black went to Jason Uhl, James Rosenfield, Jakob Porco, Jason Bednarski and Max Khull.

Matt had graduated from Sault College in the General Arts and Sciences program in 2011 and has been working in the sports field ever since. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native has worked as an Athletics Assistant in the Sault College Athletics Department during his final year of school in 2011. After graduating, Stefano worked for two years at the George Leach Centre from 2011-2013 for the Algoma University Thunderbirds Varsity Basketball Games as an Athletics Assistant. From 2013 on, Stefano has been working as the Soo Thunderbirds communications person and has also been volunteering with Shaw TV Sault Ste. Marie since 2014, doing Soo Thunderbirds TV Segments.
