In collaboration with the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board, the Algoma District School Board and the Algoma Arts Festival Association over 5,300 students from Grades 7 to 12 from across our Northern region gathered at the Essar Centre in Sault Ste. Marie on May 14th to join in the movement of their generation and celebrate #youthesoo.
This dedicated group of partners combined their talents and resources to host Sault Ste. Marie’s first WE Day-style youth empowerment event. Together these partners facilitated a youth empowerment gathering that recognized our local young people for their role and service to a variety of causes. At the same time our youth were challenged to join the movement and commit to social activism for one local and one global cause. Attendees were selected by their schools and community partners for entrance to #youthesoo.
This three hour, energy-filled happening welcomed international child and youth activist and co-founder of Free The Children and Me to We, Craig Kielburger, along with other inspirational speakers and special guests.
Katie Zeppieri, event host, introduced such guest speakers as Craig Kielburger, Spencer West, Mustafa, Corey Cook, Adam Proulx, the Marcoux brothers, and the Sault’s own Brad Jacobs. There was also entertainment with JRDN, and the O’Gorman/Schryer/Lefebvre family.
