On June 14th in the early afternoon residents in the 700 block of Second Line West contacted police regarding a treed bear. Police Officers were unable to have the bear leave the tree. Fearing the bear may harm the public, the Ministry of Natural Resources was contacted and the bear was tranquillized and relocated.
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to remind the public to be extremely cautious around areas that bears are found in or inhabit. More information on being bear wise can be accessed at http://www.ontario.ca/environment-and-energy/report-bear-problem-bear-wise .
