On June 27, 2015 at 11:30 p.m., Janice Lee Myers, 48 years, of August Street was arrested by the OPP on a first-instance warrant held by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. Myers was wanted for failing to attend court in relation to an earlier shoplifting charge. She will be appearing in court on July 27, 2015.
Unlawfully at large
On June 27, 2015 at 6:45 p.m., Richard Bell, 52 years, of James St. was arrested and charged with being unlawfully at large. Mr. Bell was required to attend at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre on Friday evening to serve an intermittent sentence from Friday evenings to Sunday mornings. It is alleged that he failed to attend at the ATRC on Friday, June 26, 2015. He will be appearing in WASH court on June 28, 2015.
Assault and Break and Enter
On June 27, 2015 at 10:20 p.m., a 32 year old male was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and break and enter in regard to a domestic incident in the downtown area. It is alleged that the accused broke into the apartment of the female victim and assaulted her and another male. As well, the investigation revealed that he had assaulted the female the previous day. He will be appearing in WASH court on June 28, 2015.
In the early morning hours of June 27th City Police officers had occasion to check a suspicious vehicle parked behind a local school. As officers approached the vehicle, a strong smell of marihuana was detected. Further observations along with assistance of the canine unit produced assorted drug paraphernalia and a small quantity of cocaine. As a result, 19 year old Nicholas Trecroce of Birkshire Place and 19 year old Matthew Stanghetta of Northridge Rd. were both charged with 2 counts of possession of a narcotic and will be appearing In Provincial Court July 27th.
City Police checked a male early this morning in the Gore and Wellington St. area of town and learned that the male was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court from 2013. 33 year old Joseph Elie of Gran St. was arrested for fail to appear court and will be appearing in Provincial Court July 27th.
City Police attended to a domestic disturbance to a west end apartment at approximately 2 am on June 27th. Investigation revealed that a 21 year old male assaulted his common-law girlfriend buy putting her in a head lock and forcing her to the ground. The accused also damaged a kitchen cabinet and breached conditions of different release documents he was on. He was charged with assault, mischief and breaching conditions which did not allow him to drink alcohol and to keep the peace. He appeared in WASH court this morning.
