Extensive Damage in Highway Collision With Injuries


On June 3, 2015 at approximately 6:45 pm officers from the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the assistance of Goulais River First Response responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 north near Yourchuck Road.

A pick-up truck travelling southbound crossed over the centre line and collided with a northbound pick-up truck.

A 21 year old male passenger in the northbound vehicle received minor injuries and was transported to hospital.
Both vehicles received heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

As a result of police investigation the driver of the southbound pick-up truck, Michael COWLEY, 24 years of age, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
The driver of the northbound pick-up truck, Dustin ELIE, 28 years of age, of the Batchewana First Nation Territory was charged with Drive No Licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
