The HSCDSB East Zone track and field meet was held today at the Jo Forman Track in Sault Ste. Marie. Capturing the team title was Holy Cross with 174 points. Finishing a close second was St. Mary’s French Immersion with 170 points while St. Paul was not far behind with 163 points.
Individually, three student-athletes won four gold medals. In the Bantam Girls Division, Alyssa Rizzo from St. Paul won the 100m and 400m and running long jump. She was also part of the Patriots winning 400m relay team.
In Bantam Boys, Jacob Bumbaco from Holy Cross won the 400m and 800m as well as the triple jump. He was also part of the Griffins gold medal effort in the 400m relay.
In the Pee Wee Girls Division, Kayla Stevenson from St. Paul won four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, running long jump and 400m relay.
Two new HSCDSB records were established in the Atom Girls Division on a day that featured ideal conditions. Kassie Sartor from Holy Cross won the 200m setting a new standard of 29.97 seconds. In the high jump Anahi Molina from St. Mary’s French Immersion set a new record of 1.28m to take gold.
In the Novice Girls Division, Isabella Fata from St. Mary’s French Immersion tied an HSCDSB standard by winning the 50m sprint in 8 seconds flat.
The West Zone meet will take place Wednesday, June 10 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The HSCDSB Elementary Championship is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16.
