This five day / five individual stage sail race begins July 20 thru to the 24th starting stage 1 in Hilton Beach and eventually finishing in Little Current on beautiful Manitoulin Island.
Day one sees the fleet leave Hilton Beach running to Thessalon on what should be good run.
Day two sees the fleet again hoping to have the favour of prevailing winds onto Blind River.
Day three has the fleet snaking through a variety of geography ending up in Spragge at the North Channel Yacht Club.
Day four is a long tack across the North Channel into the boater’s paradise of Gore Bay, with the last stage going from Gore Bay around the Benjamin Islands to end the week in Little Current. This last run typically proves very exciting with some tactful positioning in anticipation of a hard spinnaker run to the finish.
Race organizers are anticipating about 20 boats to this year with yachts ranging from 26 feet through to 36 feet. The variety of the boats tends to spread the fleet out over the course but PHRF ratings even things out for results. PHRF ratings allow handicap for different boats to even finish results out. These ratings are calculated using a constellation of factors including boat length, style, keel characteristics, and sail plans.
