Sharon Helen Cuddy passed away quietly at Algoma Regional Community Hospice (ARCH), surrounded by the love of her friends and family, on Sunday, July 12, 2015 following a seven-year battle with inflammatory breast cancer.
Sharon is survived by her husband Doug, daughter Sarah Walsh (John), son Matthew, beloved grandchild Jack, sister Dinah (Tim), brother Richard (Michelle), and many other loved family members and friends. Also missed by her dog, Kali.
Sharon was born to Vic and Helen Radauskas (Huitikka) on December 7, 1959 in Dryden, Ontario. She grew up in Aylmer and Walsingham, Ontario and graduated from Valley Heights Secondary School.
She attended the University of Guelph, obtaining a degree in Fisheries Biology. She met Doug while working as a fisheries summer student and moved to the Soo after graduation. Sharon’s early work career in Environmental Sciences was blended with child rearing. She was an active volunteer in the elementary schools, the Children’s Environmental Festival, and the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club.
For the past 11 years, when able, she worked as a research manager in Health Science. Sharon was always an outdoors person. She loved the water – camping, swimming, fishing, and kayaking. Away from the water, her leisure calendar was filled with volunteering, gardening, cross country skiing, shopping for new and used stuff (often found hunting for deals at the VV), and crafting.
Above all else Sharon valued people and her home and arms were always open. Friends and family will miss her contagious smile and laugh.
In keeping with Sharon’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Her cremated remains will be scattered in several of Sharon’s favorite outdoor spaces.
Heartfelt thanks to all of the support team – Oncology, Palliative, CCAC, Homecare Nurses, PSW’s, and especially the caring compassionate workers and volunteers at ARCH.
A special thanks to all the friends and family, that offered support in many ways during this difficult journey.
Donations may be made to ARCH in memory of Sharon. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you plant or nurture one in Sharon’s memory.
Arrangements entrusted to O’Sullivan Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 215 St. James St, 705-759-8456.
