Coast Guard Commander Gregory Matyus briefs first-responders on the workings of a Puma helicopter during a July 21 session at Sanderson Field, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Dozens of EMS skills are reviewed each summer during a two-week paramedic academy conducted by Lake Superior State University. Twelve criminal justice/fire science students will use the training to graduate as certified paramedics. The academy also preps students and regional first-responders for state, provincial, and national licensing exams.
