According to a published report Thursday, another Sault Ste. Marie store will be closing its doors due to ” under performance”
Ricky’s, Bootlegger and Cleo stores once owned by Comark Inc. filed for bankruptcy in March of 2015 was able to find a buyer for it’s 300 stores across Canada. Pacific West Commercial Corporation an affiliate of Stern Partners Inc., based in Vancouver acquired the chain of stores for an undisclosed amount.
The stores employ about 3,000 country-wide and have been operating while under bankruptcy protection, however ten underperforming stores have been identified for closure. The Sault Ste. Marie stores located in the Station Mall are among them.
UPDATE:Â Shortly after Saultonline.com published this story, we got word from Maureen Webb at the Station Mall. “We have not been told of any closures” Webb said, “it’s news to us – we have no stores closing”
Webb added further that the stores are under review and that there is a potential threat of closure, however no official decision has been made.
Aww that’s to bad,
I personally don’t think more retail stores should be the priority…we have a lot of retail / service industry jobs. SSM needs manufacturing…those are what offer higher paying jobs.
I agree we do need factories. Hard to put in a mall though..
Your right Sheila it wouldn’t go in the mall. But factory and manufacturing jobs around the city would help to sustain smaller businesses.
Maybe this city needs to start trying to get in better paying jobs and then more people will be able to afford to shop downtown and in the mall.
People shopped those stores all the time, but they weren’t as financially viable as in other cities. I for one will miss Ricki’s.
Wow. Maybe it’s time to bring in some stores that people really shop in like Aeropostle, American Eagle, Old Navy, etc. Another push to shop elsewhere.
