A pair of Soo Thunderbirds midget players have signed with a Junior A team for the 2015-2016 season.
Thunder Bay, Ontario native Jared Fanti and Caramat, Ontario product Brendan Gillis have both signed with the Thunder Bay North Stars of the SIJHL after spending the 2014-2015 season with the GNML champion Soo Thunderbirds midget AAA club.
Defenceman Jared Fanti, who served as the first T-Bird midgets captain in team history, scored 9 goals and 37 points through 36 games before scoring twice and setting up 8 others through 9 postseason contests.
Forward Brendan Gillis finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 31 goals and 54 points through 36 games before scoring 6 goals and 12 points through 9 postseason contests.
Gillis recorded back to back hat tricks with the T-Bird midgets on September 21st vs North Bay and September 27th vs Kapuskasing.
Fanti and Gillis become the second and third T-Bird midget members to commit to a CJHL team joining forward Brad Thrower, who had committed to the NOJHL’s Soo Thunderbirds back in May.
