Members and supporters of the Sault Ste. Marie Federal Liberal Association met Monday to nominate the candidate that will represent the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding during the upcoming election. Terry Sheehan was acclaimed after announcing his intention to seek the nomination in May.
Terry Sheehan is a four term City Councillor for the City of Sault Ste. Marie. Prior to his city council work, he served two terms as a School Board Trustee on the Huron Superior Catholic District School Board.

Born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Terry attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School, Sir James Dunn CVS, and studied Political Science at Lake Superior State University. He has spent his career working in both the private and public sector in business, community and economic development. He is currently employed as an Employment and Training Consultant for the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

“While on Council Terry has seen the fruition of many valuable initiatives which he soundly endorsed: Essar Centre, Northern Centre, Rowswell Hub Trail expansions, are just a few. His committee work and decisions on Council have been based on sound reasoning resulting in good outcomes for our community. When some would bring pessimism, personal agendas, and personalities into discussions, Terry never hesitated to voice thoughtful opinions and reasons to move Sault Ste. Marie forward. We need his persistence and voice in Ottawa!” said Pat Mick, for ward 3 councillor.

Terry has and continues to serve on many committees and boards, including the Algoma District Municipal Association. He is an active member in his community; taking a hands-on approach in problem solving and constituent issues. Always a voice around the table, Terry believes that hard work, practical solutions, and cooperation are the keys to strengthening our community and creating a successful future.

“I have known Terry for over 20 years. Terry understands business, and entrepreneurship. I am confident he will put his heart, and soul into improving our community with all his years of service, experience, and dedication.” said, Blair Matheson, Owner of Matheson Office Pro

“Terry Sheehan has a solid track record of effective leadership in our community and having worked with him in his capacity as a City Councillor for more than a decade, I know that he has the ability to get positive results for our city at the federal level. Terry will ensure that Sault Ste. Marie’s goals are a top priority in Ottawa and he will be a strong voice for our community.” said  David Orazietti MPP, Sault Ste. Marie

Terry is also invested in the economic health of the riding and country. His strong business background allows him to spot opportunities for the economic success and job growth that will strengthen and grow our community. Through this work, Terry has developed strong relationships with both the business community and local labour groups, as he believes it is important to work constructively and inclusively with all.

Eager to continue his hard work, Terry Sheehan stated, “I am thrilled to have been nominated to represent the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of Sault Ste. Marie. I am ready to work hard in the upcoming election campaign. The people of Sault Ste. Marie know it is time for real change in our riding and across the country.” Terry is 45 years old and married with children.

  1. Congratulations to Terry on his nomination. He’s a fine individual and no doubt would make a great MP for the Sault riding. Unfortunately, there is one big flaw in his election bid. Terry has a leader in Justin Trudeau that will, in my opinion, drag his and many other liberal candidates down when the going gets tough and leadership qualities separates the men from the boys. And Justin is most definitely a boy trying to maneuver and look intelligent in a world that he does not identify with and will continue to flounder in, leading up to the election.
Harper definitely has his problems; Mulcair continues to shine and deservedly so. But Justin; well he’s a supply teacher who’s where he is, solely because of his last name. Period !!!
Of course, not everyone may agree with my assessment. But, that’s ok.
