Shortly after 1:30 am on August 1st multiple 911 calls were received by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service regarding a fire on Tower Street. Patrol officers and Fire Services attended on scene.
Officers from Investigation Services have been called to assist with the investigation. Tower Street has been closed.
Two people were rescued and the fire may be suspicious according to Sault Fire Services. Propane tanks located outside the building exploded before Fire Services arrived.
The explosion and fire caused extensive damage to the two storey building, one firefighter was injured and taken to Sault Area Hospital and since been released. In all 7 residents in the building have been left homeless.
