The 2015 Laird Fair, sponsored in part by Service Rentals, Downing’s Garden Centre, Mill Market and Shaw Communications, is preparing to stage its annual three-day fair, which begins Friday August 14th, at the Laird Fairgrounds on Lake George Road, about 25 minutes east of Sault Ste. Marie.
North Shore Agricultural Society (NSAS) organizers promote agriculture yearly at the fair, and this event provides urban residents with opportunities to get a taste of country life in several ways, including through horse shows, animal exhibits and demonstrations.
In fact, besides getting a look at what life is like for country folk, people can also get a literal taste of the country at Saturday’s BBQ dinner featuring locally grown and raised products, or by taking a seat at the breakfast tables Saturday and Sunday mornings.
The fair kicks off Friday night at 5 p.m. with several newer events including a ‘Fun Games Show’ for all ages, and the start of the ‘Laird Horse Training Competition’ (1st Place wins a Prize and $200). Nobody Special and Texas Asylum will be providing a night of entertainment full of high energy and solid country/country rock music in the Budweiser Bandstand!
A free bus ride home will be available for concert goers both Friday night and Saturday night in addition to Driverseat being on site for those wanting their vehicles brought home as well (some restrictions apply).
A pancake breakfast will be served starting around 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday afternoon will feature a special performance by E-Zee Country who will highlight the entertainment for the afternoon.
Several activities are set for Saturday, including a sanctioned poultry competition, animal exhibits, horse speed show, the horse training competition continues, an antique tractor pull, and various activities for the kids, to name just a few.
Our BBQ dinner, begins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, with more entertainment scheduled for later that night provided by Obsession and The Cloud Bandits, Bar River’s No.1 rock band for over 16 years, set to light it up all night long in the Budweiser Bandstand.
Activities continue Sunday with a heavy horse pull, the conclusion of the horse training competition, a poultry and small animal sale, and one of this year’s newest highlighted events, the ‘Laird Extreme Ranch Horse Competition’ featuring a 1st Place Prize of $300 and a horse worth $5,000 in the Open Class! More fun activities for the kids, among other events are also planned for the day, with ACR closing out the weekend’s entertainment Sunday afternoon in the Budweiser Bandstand.
A variety of outdoor vendors will be on-site all weekend long serving up delicious goodies, as well as showcasing their unique products for all to see.
Camping is available for the weekend, for those wanting to stay on the grounds in either a tent or a trailer; electricity is limited.
Admission for the weekend is $5/day or $10 for a weekend pass; kids under 12 will be admitted for $2 or with a canned good that will be donated to a local food bank.
The NSAS will also be holding a raffle with the winner receiving either a Kids John Deere Gator or an Echo Chainsaw. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. Prizes can be viewed Wednesday at the Mill Market or at the Laird Fair, with the draw taking place Sunday, August 16.
It’s going to be an exciting time so please come out to support the 2015 Laird Fair.
We look forward to seeing everyone out again for another great year!
