Chinese students wrapping up four weeks at Lake Superior State University get briefed at War Memorial Hospital’s Rehabilitation Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on Aug. 4.
Director James Haglund, right, presented a behind-the-scenes tour of the center’s speech, physical, and occupational therapy facilities and services. The delegation also explored War Memorial’s main campus, with a focus on the radiology and emergency services departments. Medical students and faculty from Shaoxing University, LSSU’s partner university in China, are finishing a summer program that offered glimpses into American health services and culture. Shaoxing University, located 100 miles south of Shanghai on China’s east coast, is a four-year university with 23,000 full-time students enrolled in the arts, natural sciences, engineering, medical science, law, education, economics, and management.
This is Shaoxing University’s second summer visit, and includes business students and faculty for a total of 34 visitors. Upcoming exchanges will involve more students and faculty from both universities in different academic disciplines. Looking on second from the right is Prof. Guidi Yang, director of LSSU’s International Education Office, who organizes exchanges between Shaoxing and many other Chinese universities.
