Labour Disruption at the Children’s Aid Society of Algoma Possible

The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma is advising today that contract negotiations between the Society and CUPE Local 5269 have broken down and a no board report has been issued by the Ministry of Labour as of August 15, 2015. The Union is entitled to strike as of September 1, 2015. A day for mediation has been scheduled for August 31, 2015; however, if this is not successful, there could be a labour disruption as early as September 1, 2015.

In the event of a labour disruption, the care and safety of the children and families remains the primary concern of everyone at the Society. A contingency plan that addresses priorities in service delivery is in place.

During a Labour Disruption, the Society will continue to respond to emergency situations and focus efforts on ensuring the protection of children in the community. Emergency referrals can continue to be forwarded to the agency by calling 705-949-0162 or 1-888-414-3571. For those receiving services from the Children’s Aid Society of Algoma, ongoing services will be greatly curtailed. Should you have an urgent need during a labour disruption, please contact the Society at 705-949-0162.
