Children’s Recreational Hockey Program

As we approach the middle of August, the defending NOJHL and Dudley Hewitt Cup champion Soo Thunderbirds will be hosting their evaluation camp from August 14th-16th at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Friday, August 14th

Team Red Registration at 4:00 p.m.

Team Red Practice from 5:30 p.m.-6:45 p.m.

Team Black Registration at 5:00 p.m.

Team Black Practice from 7:00 p.m.-8:15 p.m.

Saturday, August 15th

Arrival at 10:30 a.m.

Off ice workout and run at 11:00 a.m.

Lunch at 11:45 a.m.

Arrival at 4:15 p.m.

Team Red vs Team Black from 5:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m.

Sunday, August 16th

Arrival at 10:30 a.m.

Team Red vs Team Black from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

This year’s returning players to date include; forwards Jaren Bellini, Brett Jeffries, Matt Pinder, Joey Miller, Matt Mitchell, Matt Caruso, and Nathan Hebert, along with defencemen Caleb Boman, Brandon Grandinetti and Matt Busby.

The trio of current signed players include; forward Brad Thrower (Soo T-Birds Midget AAA), defenceman Matt Murray (Soo T-Birds Midget AAA) and goaltender Brandon Gordon (Soo Indians Midget AAA).

Defenceman Joe Newhouse, is the only player who was acquired as a free agent this offseason from the SIJHL’s Thunder Bay North Stars.

Cost is $100, so please bring your registration forms and permission to skate forms (if necessary) when you arrive at the rink Friday.

Matt had graduated from Sault College in the General Arts and Sciences program in 2011 and has been working in the sports field ever since. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native has worked as an Athletics Assistant in the Sault College Athletics Department during his final year of school in 2011. After graduating, Stefano worked for two years at the George Leach Centre from 2011-2013 for the Algoma University Thunderbirds Varsity Basketball Games as an Athletics Assistant. From 2013 on, Stefano has been working as the Soo Thunderbirds communications person and has also been volunteering with Shaw TV Sault Ste. Marie since 2014, doing Soo Thunderbirds TV Segments.
