On Tuesday, August 18 ARCH Hospice staff and volunteers were joined by more than 100 United Steelworkers from across Canada as they embarked on the renovation of a lifetime!
Coined “USW Day at ARCH Hospice”, the day-long event was made possible by United Steelworkers District 6 who held their Annual District 6 Convention in Sault Ste. Marie from August 17-20. The conference theme of “Strong Union, Strong Community” was felt throughout the District all week long. More than 100 USW delegates generously volunteered their time and energy at ARCH Hospice on Tuesday to help transform the Hospice’s outdoor space.
The community came together and completed more than a dozen projects in less than 6 hours, including staining the entire building, constructing a new Comfort Garden on the south side of the property, placing a new river rock bed along the sides and back of the building, and creating a beautiful new rock garden at the roadside entrance.
USW Delegates, ARCH staff, volunteers and community businesses alike had fun and made a monumental impact. Without the support from the District 6 United Steelworkers and our community, it would have taken ARCH over a year, thousands of dollars, and more than 600 hours to undergo the transformation it experienced in less than a day.
On behalf of our ARCH Hospice community we want to extend our gratitude to everyone that helps hospice. Your willingness to help hospice makes a meaningful difference in the comfort and care of our community.
