Get ready for the Grand Opening of the new A & W at 659 Great Northern Road just south of the entrance to the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, September 17th with the festivities beginning at 5:00 pm as A & W will roll back the clock to the 60s.
A & W franchise owner Lori Martineau and Manager Sandra Babic have teamed up to establish the 1960s as the theme for their Grand Opening.
As reported in an earlier story Lori did own an A & W franchise in Marathon and back in 2010 Lori partnered with Summerfest organizer Andre Paris to turn back the clock to a 1960s theme day. Staff from A & W were dressed like they were back in the 60s and in similar fashion the staff at the new A & W will also be dressed in 60s garb consisting of poodle skirts and bobby socks.
There will be some vintage cars from the a number of local car clubs in the parking lot to help to take us back in time.
Years ago the staff from A & W used to have car hops on roller skates, so to help us remember those days there will be some roller skating action going on from the Sault Roller Derby skaters. The skaters won’t be doing car hop service but Lori and Sandra will be lacing up a pair of roller skates. Who knows maybe some of the other staff might join in.
Lori informed SaultOnline that they have the band Redline to play at the Grand Opening and there will be plenty of beer available, A & W Root Beer that is.
For the Grand Opening there will be quite a few specials and there will be a number of give-aways and prizes.
There will also be raffles and draws with the proceeds going to MS. From the website http://cruisintoendms.ca in the past six years A & W has raised more than $6 million in support of the MS Society of Canada.
Come and visit for the Grand Opening and if you would like to get into the spirit of the 60s please do so.
