Two border patrol agents were fired upon while conducting a search for a missing person on Drummond Island Thursday. The agents were not wounded in the shooting, the agents did return fire but there has been no reports if anyone was struck by the shots.
A spokesperson for U.S. Customs and border patrol told the Associated Press that the agents, both from Sault Ste. Marie Michigan, found footprints and followed them to a remote cabin on the island about an hour south east of Sault Ste. Marie and close by to St. Joseph Island in the north channel. Drummond Island is located on the American side of the border.
No other information has been released at this time.
