St Matt’s a community garden success story

The St Matt’s Community Garden has had a very good year. Located behind St Matthew’s Anglican Church, the sixteen bed community garden is now
nearing the end of its fourth growing season.

New for 2015 is a three-compartment compost unit constructed with local white cedar lumber, donated by Clean North, and labour provide by youth
working with the Ontario Stewardship Ranger program and the Ontario Jobs For Youth program.

The church congregation started the garden in 2012 in support of community-building, food security and good stewardship of the land.

Each garden bed is rented to a group or individual who then grow vegetables for their own use. The cost is $20 for the year with some
communal volunteer service also required.

The public is welcome to drop by and visit the garden any time during daylight hours. The church is located at 1643 Wellington Street East in
Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
