Sudbury Liberal charged in connection to by-election scandal

Gerry Longhead Jr., a long time prominent Liberal in Sudbury has been charged by OPP in connection with the Sudbury by-election scandal.

Longhead has been charged with one count of Counselling an Offence Not Committed  and a further charge of Unlawfully Influencing or Negotiating Appointments.

Longheed released a statement Thursday morning “Today I was served a summons by the OPP that they are proceeding with charges against me. I will be vigorously defending these charges in the courts.”

It’s alleged former Sudbury Liberal candidate Andrew Olivier was offered a job or an appointment to step aside so that now-MPP Glenn Thibeault could run for the spot.

“I have previously indicated if charged I would step aside from the Sudbury Regional Police Services Board and my position as Chancellor of Huntington University until this matter is resolved. I have no further comments at this time as this matter is now before the courts.” Longheed said in the release.
