Union Local Backs Morrison

Mike DaPrat, President of USW Local 2251 congratulates NDP Candidate Skip Morrison for winning the union's endorsement in a vote held Wednesday.

New Democrat candidate Skip Morrison has received the endorsement of members of USW local 2251.

“I am honoured to receive the support of my brothers and sisters,” said Morrison.

Sault Ste. Marie’s largest union gathered for a special membership meeting Wednesday. All three candidates were invited to attend and to speak before a vote was held.

“These Steelworkers are driving the Canadian economy.” Said Morrison. “Stephen Harper and Bryan Hayes don’t understand the vital role that unions play in protecting good jobs in our community. Unions work to improve the wages, health, safety, and pensions of all workers. They have been under attack by the Harper Conservatives and are ready for change.”

USW Local 2251 represents over 2000 workers at Essar Steel Algoma.
