The War Memorial Hospital Women’s Walk and 5K, held Aug. 29 on the Lake Superior State University campus, raised $53,000 for LSSU women’s athletics.
The seventh annual Women’s Walk is one of the LSSU Department of Athletics’ major fundraisers, with benefits going to Laker women’s cross country, track and field, volleyball, softball, basketball, tennis and golf.All proceeds go toward the programs’ operational expenses and directly support the teams. More than 200 walkers participated in the trek through LSSU’s campus, and hundreds more made financial contributions.
This year’s event also included an inaugural 5K race. War Memorial Hospital was the major sponsor of the 2015 women’s walk. Other sponsors included Precision Edge Surgical Products, Old Mission Bank, Kelly & Co., Inc., Hospice of the EUP, Leitz Sports Center, Fraza Forklifts, Soo Co-op Credit Union, Logos Gallore, TRT Furniture Repair, LLC, Rockford Psychological Services, PC, Richards & Ribitch Dentistry, PLLC, Thunder Mountain Drywall, Rosalie’s Road Lounge, South Gilbert Farm, Fernelius Hyundai. LSSU First Lady Teresa Pleger served as grand marshal.
