On Saturday, October 17, 2015 God welcomed a new Guardian Angel. James Kenneth Bennett, who was born on January 31, 1928, went home to his Lord and Saviour.
Jim was comforted by the love of his life, Georgena, his wife of sixty-four years. He was the devoted son of Russell and Annabelle Bennett. Joy Cress (John Martel) has lost her big brother who always looked after her. Shelley Raymond (Michael), Linda Bennett, Jeff Bennett (Michelle) were so fortunate to have such a loving, patient and wise man for their Dad. Chris Raymond (Rebecca) and Ryan Bennett were very blessed to have the most fun-loving Grampa ever. His special great-grandchildren Alessia and Carter Raymond will miss the chance to really know Grampa. Robert and Vi Gordon and Jessie McGill will miss their brother in law Jim so much.
Jim touched the lives of many people and has left so many precious memories for them. He was truly a family man. He valued family and taught his children the importance of family, faith and hard work.
He loved to have fun. He was active in hockey and baseball for many years and enjoyed coaching Jeff and many of his friends. Many wonderful memories were made at the family camp on St. Joe’s Island where all of the extended family had camps together.
Jim contributed much to his community in many ways. He loved helping others. It was this compassion for others that led him to become a Mason (Hatherly Lodge), a Shriner (Mocha Temple) and active in Preceptory and Chapter. He was Past Master of Hatherly Lodge and Past President of the Sault Shrine Club among many other things. You could always find him in the Mall at Christmas time selling Shriner’s cakes with his friends.
The family will be receiving friends at Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 7 – 9 pm. Jim’s funeral will take place at Central United Church, which he attended for over 70 years, on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:00 am. Rev. Laurie Milito officiating.
Memorial contributions in honour of Jim can be made to the James K . Bennett Memorial Palliative Care Fund. The fund is designed to further Jim’s legacy of service benefiting the development and resources of Palliative Care programs in the Long Term Care setting.
The family would like to thank the staff on Apple Orchard 3 and Cedar Grove 1 Palliative Care at the F.J. Davey Home for their care of Jim.
Special thanks to Dennis, Cal and Phil. Also, special thanks to Doug Isles for being a very special volunteer who became a friend to Jim and faithfully shared his time with him.
