David Orazietti, MPP, was in attendance Wednesday at the ground breaking ceremony of Uusi Koti, the newest seniors’ apartment constructed by the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association (OFRA) and scheduled to open in November 2016.

“Congratulations to OFRA, and our community, in supporting the creation of quality seniors’ independent housing,” said Orazietti. “The waitlist to move into Uusi Koti is indicative of the need for this type of housing and it shows the respect people have for OFRA and the services they offer and continue to expand upon since 1976.”

The $12.5 million building will be constructed behind the existing OFRA buildings located at 721-725 North Street.  The nine-story, state-of-the-art building will feature 85 apartments including one and two bedroom units and wheel-chair accessible units.

The construction phase is expected to create a minimum of 250 construction jobs.
