Laker Hockey helps Oncology Specialist get a Drop on Cancer

Dr. Belisario Arango, head of oncology at War Memorial Hospital, gets some quality puck-drop time in with Lake Superior State University hockey captain Austin McKay, left, and assistant captain Eric Drapluk inside LSSU’s Taffy Abel Ice Arena, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Arango will drop an official game puck to open the Laker’s Oct. 31 match-up against Alabama-Huntsville, which begins at 7:07 p.m. Evening festivities also mark the eighth-annual Pink in the Rink benefit, a fundraising effort focused on the fight against cancer, particularly breast cancer. Arango’s appearance highlights WMH’s enhanced Cancer Care Unit due to open in January, with 15 treatment stations and private rooms for immune compromised patients, plus state of the art facilities for lab work, chemotherapy, and other infusions and procedures.
