Old Book, New Art

Charlotte DeLong, 13, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., poses with her hedgehog during an altered book workshop held recently in LSSU’s Shouldice Library.

Shouldice is teaming up with the city’s Bayliss Public Library for an altered book competition that runs through Oct. 14. Pick up old books from either location and turn them into art through rebinding, painting, cutting, burning, folding, gold leafing, rubber-stamping, or drilling.

Final judging and a reception will be hosted at Shouldice Library Oct. 15, 4-6 p.m. Run a Web search on “altered book images” or “book art images” for ideas. Contact the Shouldice Library front desk at 906-635-2402 to enter.
