Sault’s Regiment Marks Historical Change of Command


For the first time an Afghanistan veteran, Lt.-Col. Eric Groulx, will hand over command of the city’s regiment to another Afghanistan veteran, Lt.-Col. Lance Knox, at a parade on Saturday, October 17th at 2:30 PM in the Sault Ste. Marie Armoury, Pine Street.

In a release today, the Sault Ste. Marie Veteran’s Commemorative Monument Project encouraged community attendance at the regimental change of command ceremony and noted that all military service people involved in the event are among those in the city and area that the Veteran’s Commemorative Monument is designed to recognize.

In another first for the 49th (Sault Ste. Marie) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, Lt.-Col. Knox will become the first Commanding Officer to have risen through the ranks from private to Regimental Sergeant Major and then to Commanding Officer.

The 49th (SSM) Fd Regt RCA is part of the Canadian Forces Reserve Force tasked with training it’s 100 plus members to provide indirect artillery fire in support of Army operations, augmenting Canada’s Regular Force. The regiment is part of 33 Canadian Brigade Group, 4th Canadian Division.
Joining the regiment’s Honorary Colonel, HCol. Clyde Healey at the parade will be Retired Brig.-Gen.James Selbie, the Colonel Commandant of the Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery.
