A long-standing and successful tradition of giving and community outreach will continue during the advent season at St. Mary’s College (SMC), with a new name.
The inaugural ‘Heaven Cent’ campaign will kick off Monday, November 30 at St. Mary’s College. ‘Heaven Cent’ is the new moniker for the ‘Pennies From Heaven’ campaign which collected hundreds of thousands of dollars over more than two decades at St. Mary’s College on Wellington Street.
“We felt that, since we have moved into a new school, the name for our Advent fundraising campaign should be new as well. ‘Pennies From Heaven’ was a tremendous idea which helped many organizations and individuals over the years. We are confident ‘Heaven Cent’ will be just as popular and successful,” said St. Mary’s College Principal, Cindy Sawyer.
The kick-off to ‘Heaven Cent’ will begin in the SMC Commons area at 12:05 p.m. For the following three weeks, students will be involved in various fundraising activities, including sports events, themed ‘dress down’ days and the annual Mr. & Ms. SMC event.
“We know from past experience that our students will be enthusiastic about ‘Heaven Cent’. The student organizers certainly are and they are confident that the activities they have put together will make this campaign the best ever,” said Teacher Co-Moderator, Marisa Grancic.
On Monday, December 7, 2015, the Heaven Cent Pasta Dinner will take place at Grand Gardens North. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Take-out order pick up is available from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with the sit-down dinner to follow. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children.
