Sault College’s School of Media and Design Department and Algoma University’s Fine Arts Department are seeking submissions for the Inner Light Photo Contest. All photographers from the Algoma District are invited to participate in this inaugural event.
“Whether you consider yourself a professional photographer or if you just happen to have caught some amazing images on your phone camera, whether you work in analogue or digital, we want to celebrate and support the diverse photographic work that you are making,” says Professor Andrea Pinheiro of Algoma University.
Participants are asked to submit up to three images of their original photographic work to be considered for prizes and exhibition. A multi-venue exhibition of the chosen works will be held in January 2016 at selected exhibition spaces including Algoma University, Sault College, Camera Craft, and One Eighty Projects. Photographers can submit work, free of charge, through www.innerlightphotocontest.ca. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2015.
Thanks to the generosity of a local donor, the Inner Light Photo Contest is pleased to offer cash prizes to the winning submissions.
Grand Prize – $500
Second Prize – $250
Student Prize – $250
The first two prizes are open to all, while the third is open to any student at Sault College, Algoma University or any secondary school in the Algoma District. The submissions will be shortlisted by a double blind judging panel. The 2015 jury consists of Colin Crowell (Sault College), Andrea Pinheiro (Algoma University), and Donna Hopper (Village Media). Additional prizes will be announced closer to the exhibition dates.
Competition rules and regulations as well as the submission form can be found at www.innerlightphotocontest.ca.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our community to inspire and be inspired by the beautiful work being done by our local artists,” says Colin Crowell of the Digital Photography and Imaging program at Sault College. “I can’t wait to see this year’s submissions; there is so much talent in our region.”
