David Poluck has announced his intention to stand for City Councillor in Ward 2. Council has not determined how to fill the seat vacated by Councillor Terry Sheehan. Sheehan won the federal election for Member of Parliament.
Poluck delivered his letter of intent to the Clerk’s Office on Monday morning, along with signatures of support for his nomination from Ward Two ratepayers.
Malcolm White accepted the letter as information to council putting on hold the nomination fee until a council desision is reached. The runners-up for the Ward 2 race cannot stand for the seat and Poluck had the most votes of any 3rd place candidate in the city in the 2014 municipal election. This places Poluck as the likely candidate for the seat, should council decide to appoint a councillor. Poluck said “Although a decision has not been reached, be it an appointment or a by-election, I feel it is the right time to declare my commitment and make clear my intent.”
Poluck is a life long resident and owner of Northern Jewellery/Luray Gems.com as well as a founding member of the Sault Ste. Marie Association of Ratepayers. “The ratepayers association worked under a framework of continuous improvement to build better communication between ratepayers and City Council” says Poluck. “I want to carry on with that effort as a councillor.”
City Council will discuss the vacancy at the November 9th meeting.
